The AYJ is now a registered charity!

The AYJ is delighted to announce that the Charity Commission has registered us as a charity.

Following our recent application for the Alliance for Youth Justice (AYJ) to register as a charity, we have been informed that the Charity Commission is satisfied that the AYJ is a charity and has been entered onto the Register of Charities with the Registered Charity Number 1207777.

Pippa Goodfellow, Chief Executive of the Alliance for Youth Justice said:

“The AYJ is thrilled that we have achieved charitable status and are grateful to all who have been involved in this process. In recent years, through a truly collaborative effort we have we have undertaken a transformative programme of work to create a more sustainable and effective organisation – with a strategic review and rebrand, improving operations and governance, diversifying and strengthening our networks and partnerships, and working alongside children and young people.

Key to this work has been clarifying and communicating the charitable purposes of our work, including the promotion of children’s rights, raising awareness, and conducting and disseminating research. We are delighted that our work for the public benefit has been recognised through charitable status. We will now build on and develop this work through our bold strategic ambition to reimagine ‘justice’ for children and young people to drive positive change in future systems, services and support.”

Our relaunch as the AYJ is 2021 was an opportunity for us to revisit and redefine our main goals and values, to achieve greater clarity on who we are, what we do, and what we want to achieve. To find out more about the story behind our relaunch in this blog post by our Chief Executive, Pippa Goodfellow, here.

We would like to thank all of our members, partners and young people for their invaluable contributions to this process and for their suggestions, ideas and commitment to helping us to develop and define the work we do together. We look forward to continuing this collaborative work to achieve greater engagement and impact in the future for the benefit of children, young people, and society.
