JOINT STATEMENT: Universal Periodic Review
The AYJ joined over 80 Civil Society organisations in making a Joint Statement calling on the UK Government to implement recommendations from the UK’s Universal Periodic Review. Read more here.
MEETING: AYJ meets Norwegian youth voice organisation Change Factory
The AYJ team, Leaders Unlocked and one representative from the Young Advocates met with Change Factory to exchange knowledge about the youth justice system in both Norway and England and Wales, and to develop our understanding of the ways in which the youth voice can be amplified to influence policy. MEETINGS: AYJ and Young Advocates engage with Ministry of Justice on the Independent Review of Children’s Social Care
The AYJ hosted two meetings with the Ministry of Justice - one with AYJ members and one with Young Advocates - to help the Ministry of Justice advise Ministers about recommendations in the Independent Care Review. Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing Claire Coutinho has confirmed that the implementation strategy that was due by the end of 2022 is now expected “early in the new year”.

PANEL: Parliamentary event for the Traveller Movement publication ‘Disrupting the school to prison pipeline’
AYJ Policy Manager Millie Harris featured as a panellist at the parliamentary event exploring why Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children experience the school to prison pipeline and how it can be interrupted. Millie spoke about spoke about a potential perfect storm ahead of increased vulnerability for children due to the cost of living crisis, the need for child-centred policing, and keeping children out of custody.
