AYJ Launch Event: #AYJasks…How could we reimagine ‘justice’ for children?

Join us on March 3rd, in our launching event as the AYJ, as we ask the question 'how could we reimagine 'justice' for children?' - the first in a series of #AYJasks...

With the help of our expert panel including Gavin McKenna of Reach Every Generation, Nadine Smith of Leaders Unlocked, Shadae Cazeau of Equal, and John Drew, social change activist and previous Chief Executive of the Youth Justice Board, our AYJ launch event will explore 'justice' through 4 key themes…

CHILDREN’S RIGHTS: Ensuring that all children can enjoy their rights, including those in conflict with the law

Ensuring that the UNCRC rights of all children at risk of entering, or within, the youth justice system are respected, and that independent support is provided when those rights are threatened

AccessNEG.png

ACCESS: Greater equality of access to resources, services and support

Ensuring that children have access to universal services, as well as targeted support tailored to their individual needs

EquityNEG.png

EQUITY: Promotion of equality of opportunity, treating all children fairly based on their respective needs

Recognising that children face a range of personal and structural disadvantages which must be addressed at every stage of the youth justice system to ensure all children are treated fairly

ParticipationNEG.png

PARTICIPATION: Expanded opportunities for meaningful participation in decision-making

Children at risk of entering, or within, the youth justice system have meaningful opportunities to contribute to decision-making both on an individual and structural level

We have also invited our AYJ Young Advocates to the event to offer their insight on 'justice' and to reflect on the ideas offered by our expert panel.

The launch event will be a chance for everyone from our members, the wider youth justice sector, and anyone interested in driving positive change in youth justice, to come together to discuss and to reimagine a future that promotes social justice and enables all children to reach their full potential.

This will also be a first in a series of ‘#AYJasks…’, a series of discussions where we will be challenging and questioning narratives surrounding children and youth justice.
