AYJ Members’ Meeting: “Time for Action”

Read our summary from last month’s AYJ Members’ Meeting which focused on racial disparity in the youth justice system. With guest speakers HM Inspectorate of Probation and User Voice who presented their findings on their Experiences of Black and Mixed Heritage Boys in the Youth Justice System report, and Adam Mooney, Lead for Over-Represented Children at the Youth Justice Board (YJB) who presented updates on how the YJB are working to tackle racial disparity.

“The Youth Justice System’s Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic: Children’s Welfare Needs and Vulnerabilities” – MCYS

The Manchester Centre for Youth Studies (MCYS) at Manchester Metropolitan University published a new research briefing as part of the joint project between the centre and the AYJ exploring the impacts of COVID-19 on the youth justice system, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. The report focused on YOT professionals’ views of children’s welfare needs and vulnerabilities during the pandemic, raising particular concerns around domestic abuse, Child Criminal Exploitation, mental health, and worsening living conditions.
